FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions from HR directors, legal counsel, operations leaders, and C-suite executives evaluating workplace violence prevention programs.
Legislation & Legal
Is a workplace violence prevention program required by law?+
15+ states currently mandate workplace violence prevention programs — including California (SB 553 — all employers 10+), Ohio (PERRP — all public employers), Texas, Illinois, Washington State, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Maine, Minnesota, and Virginia — with more advancing legislation every session. Federal OSHA’s General Duty Clause also requires all employers to address recognized WPV hazards. Nationwide mandates are expected by 2028. View full Legislation Guide
What does a Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) require?+
A compliant WVPP must include: a written prevention plan specific to your industry and workplace, identification of responsible parties, hazard assessment documentation, employee involvement procedures, incident reporting and investigation protocols, annual training with completion records, and ongoing plan review. Safe4r Workplace Solutions™'s WVPP Plan Builder guides organizations through every required element and generates audit-ready documentation automatically.
How much can an employer be fined for non-compliance?+
OSHA willful violations carry fines up to $156,259 per citation (2024 inflation-adjusted schedule). California SB 553 violations: up to $18,000 per willful citation. Civil lawsuit settlements for workplace violence average $500,000+ per incident, with jury awards regularly reaching $3M or more. Workers’ compensation claims average $22,000+ per WPV injury. A documented, maintained WVPP is your primary defense in both regulatory and civil proceedings.
Does California SB 553 apply to my organization?+
California SB 553 (effective July 1, 2024) applies to virtually all California employers with 10 or more employees — across all industries, not just healthcare. If you have employees working in California, you are required to have a written WVPP, provide annual training, and maintain a violent incident log for 5 years. There are limited exceptions for remote-only worksites, certain healthcare employers already under existing OSHA standards, and law enforcement. When in doubt, assume you are covered.
Platform & Implementation
What makes Safe4r Workplace Solutions™ different from other workplace safety software?+
Safe4r Workplace Solutions™ is the only platform that integrates all three prevention dimensions in one system: Noble SCOUT™ behavioral threat recognition training (veteran-owned), Safe4r Workplace Solutions™ geo-fencing mass notification technology for real-time emergency response, and the Health Karma Workplace Concern Line for 24/7 master’s-level behavioral health access. Most platforms address compliance documentation only. Safe4r Workplace Solutions™ addresses the human, technological, and legislative dimensions simultaneously.

Most organizations are fully operational within 4 structured steps: account setup and configuration, WVPP plan generation and risk assessment (typically 1–2 weeks), training launch with automated employee invitations, and full go-live with incident reporting and compliance certification. Timeline varies by organization size and complexity. Contact our team for an implementation estimate specific to your organization.
